...the circle closes... is a meditation for solo trumpet and flugelhorn. The sections on trumpet are played entirely muted and with the second valve slide removed, while the flugelhorn is used open and with a plunger mute. At first, the characters of the two instruments seem to be separate and distinct, but as the piece continues it becomes apparent that they in fact occupy the same space.
